Introduction -PG Diploma in Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR) Techniques
The Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a powerful technique used to make numerous copies of a specific segment of DNA quickly and accurately. The PCR technique has made it possible to analyze DNA fragments in samples that contain amounts of DNA that are either too small, or too degraded, to permit other types of nucleic acid analysis. As a result, it now becomes possible to analyze and characterize DNA fragments found in minute quantities. Because DNA from a wide range of sources can be amplified, the technique has been applied to many fields. PCR is used to diagnose genetic disease and to detect low levels of viral infection.
